Panda London – Re-recording House of Bamboo

When Panda London, the bamboo bedding brand known for its eco-credentials and cheeky charm, set out to launch a new radio campaign, they needed a track that was just the right blend of retro cool and playful swagger. Enter: House of Bamboo, originally recorded by Andy Williams.

A Song with History (and Swagger)

First released in 1959, House of Bamboo is a swinging lounge-pop track full of playful lyrics and irresistible rhythm. But it wasn’t until decades later that the track found a new generation of fans, thanks to its prominent placement in the BBC’s hit drama This City Is Ours. The show’s gritty yet stylish aesthetic gave the song fresh cultural clout, and its infectious hook quickly became earworm-worthy once again.

Why It Fit the Brand

Lyrically, House of Bamboo couldn’t be a more perfect match for Panda London. The song is packed with bamboo references, of course, but it’s also oozing with laid-back confidence and playful energy, mirroring the brand’s light-hearted tone and effortless cool. It was a creative alignment that made complete sense.

The Re-record Challenge

With the creative agency securing rights from the publisher, the baton was passed to us to bring a fresh take to this lounge-era classic. Our mission: a tight 30-second re-record, keeping the essence of the original while giving it a new lease of life for radio.

To nail the vocal, we brought in none other than Dave Dean, a seasoned Andy Williams tribute artist who made a name for himself on Stars In Their Eyes. Dave’s performance brought just the right amount of charisma and authenticity, channelling Andy’s timeless charm with a wink to modern listeners.

More Than Music

Alongside the musical arrangement, we handled full audio production for the radio spot, from vocal tracking and mixing to final mastering and broadcast delivery. The result was a slick, playful, and unmistakably Panda take on a classic track, tailored perfectly for radio.
